Planning a bathroom reno? Everything you need to know about the plumbing — from rough-in to fixtures.
Planning Your Bathroom Renovation Plumbing
The plumbing phase of a bathroom renovation is the most critical and must be done before any tiling or fixtures are installed. Moving a toilet, shower or bath requires a licensed plumber to reconfigure the drain layout — this is called the rough-in stage.
Understanding Rough-In Plumbing
The rough-in involves moving or extending water supply lines and drainage before walls are tiled. This is the most expensive part of the plumbing process and the most important to get right. Errors at this stage are extremely costly to fix later.
Choosing Fixtures
In Caloundra's humid coastal climate, choose fixtures with a high corrosion resistance rating. Brushed nickel and matte black finishes hold up better than chrome near the coast. For shower heads and tapware, we recommend WELS 3-star rated products to keep water bills low.
Hot Water System Sizing
A bathroom reno is the ideal time to upgrade your hot water system. Consider whether your current system is adequately sized — a family of 4 needs at least a 160L system. If adding a second bathroom, you'll likely need to upsize.
Waterproofing Requirements
Queensland building codes require licensed waterproofing in all wet areas. PumiFlow's team handles waterproofing as part of our renovation package, ensuring your tiler can start on compliant surfaces with zero risk of future leaks.
